Two of my three years teaching, I was blessed with the opportunity to team teach. I love having two (or more) active teachers in a classroom. This unit is designed for the media specialist to do most of the “teaching” while leaving room for the classroom teacher to join in helping when students are working in groups. However, I think it could also work well with both the media specialist and the classroom teacher providing instruction at the same time. This kind of team teaching approach can only be accomplished if both parties buy in it.
Although I did not collaborate with any teachers in designing this learning experience for a particular classroom, I did briefly discuss my ideas with a 4th grade teacher and a (1st year) high school teacher to make sure that my expectations seemed on track.
It would also be great to collaborate with the school nurse and/or school counselor so that they could participate in discussing health topics and seeking professional help.
